CALVIÀ PAYS TRIBUTE TO ITS POLICE OFFICERS
The annual Calvià Local Police Day celebration resumes after two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic
The Calvià Local Police Day has been held this afternoon in Peguera with the institutional awards ceremony, which have been delivered by the mayor Alfonso Rodríguez Badal; the deputy mayor of Local Police, Nati Francés; the Calvià Local Police head and police major, Francisco Darder and José Antonio Navarro respectively; and the regional minister of the Presidency, Public Function and Equality, Mercedes Garrido. The insular minister of Finance and Public Administration, Josep Lluís Colom, also attended the event.
The mayor Alfonso Rodríguez Badal has congratulated all the distinguished people and has made a public recognition of the police actions carried out in a season with a very high tourist activity with more than 1.400 proceedings. For this reason, he has made a special mention of the work of the security forces in the municipality. The mayor has congratulated the Calvià Local Police as a group but also pointing out the importance of congratulating individuals. “Citizens, said Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, think of the Police as a guarantor of their safety and coexistence, in a municipality where we receive more than a million tourists a year. This is its great value as a public service. Calvià knows that it has a good Local Police”.
On her behalf, the deputy mayor of Local Police, Nati Francés, highlighted the good work carried out and that has resulted, for example, in the success of the tourist season and in its key role in the fight against drunkenness tourism. In this area, she congratulated the Government Delegation on the support that Calvià has received from the Civil Guard this year, which has increased its presence in the area. She has also highlighted the essential role that Calvià Local Police had during the pandemic, especially during lockdown.
Next, the police officer Felipe Frade Garau was distinguished with the Police Merit Cross with a blue badge for saving a woman from a fire.
The Police Merit Cross with a green badge went to Juan Carlos Rodríguez and Jacobo Soteras, sergeant and head of the Civil Guard respectively; for the coordinator of the Marsave Civil Protection company, José Merino; and for thirteen members of the Calvià Local Police. On the other hand, six police officers who have offered more than 30 years of service have received the Cross with a white badge.
The honorary decorations for people outside the local Police have been for the ambulance and Santa Ponça PAC personnel and for doctor Íñigo Morán; for two Oh!-Limpia workers, Montserrat Sáez and Suzanne María Stasiak; for the IES Calvià retired director, Jaume Balaguer; for the Cala Figuera forest ranger, José Francisco Martín; for El Toro resident, Francesc Porcel; for the Eysa company worker, Claudia Patricia Vásquez; for the Palmanova Yacht Club; and for the Calvià Town Hall's general director of economic and recruitment services, Catalina Morro.
Today, the plenary session has also congratulated the Calvià Local Police force for their professionalism during the pandemic; the Citizen Attention Division, the Night Service and the Community Relations Division; twenty-six members of the Calvià Local Police; three operators; two Administration civil servants; and the Palma Local Police officer, Manuel Sánchez.
Finally, the diplomas have been delivered to five retiring police officers.
The mayor chief of Calvià Local Police, Francisco Darder, has highlighted the collaboration between municipal police officers and other social actors in the municipality. In addition, he has highlighted some results of the activity carried out:
• Actions in more than 700 traffic accidents, the filing of more than 20 reports for illegal transportation, and more than 11.000 complaints filed for traffic violations.
• More than 4.000 complaints filed for violations of the Municipal Ordinance on the Promotion of Coexistence.
• Around thirty reports for violations of the Excess Law Decree, with the consequent precautionary closures.
Thus, the application of municipal regulations by police officers and the Law against Excess Tourism have served as dissuasive measures that favour coexistence in the municipality, especially in areas with a high density of tourists.
