Monday 14th November 2022

INAUGURATION OF THE NEW MUNICIPAL GALATZÓ PUBLIC ESTATE REFUGE

Today the new municipal Galatzó public estate refuge was inaugurated, with the attendance of the Regional Government president, Francina Armengol; the president of the Mallorca Council, Catalina Cladera; the mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal; the vice-president and councillor of Sustainability and Environment, Aurora Ribot; the councillor for the Environment and Ecological Transition of Calvià, Rafael Sedano, and the Regional Government's general director for Tourism, Rosana Morillo. Councillors Nati Francés, Marga Plomer, Juan Recasens and Francisca Muñoz also attended on behalf of the Town Hall.

The Galatzó Public Estate refuge is a project in which the three administrations have participated: Town Hall, Mallorca Council and Regional Government. The Town Hall drew up the project and gave it impetus, the Mallorca Council has executed it and will manage it and the Regional Government has financed it with funds from the Sustainable Tourism Tax. For the Refuge opening, the old Ses Porqueres building has been renovated. It has 52 places distributed in 12 bedrooms, kitchen, dining room and large multifunctional space. The Galatzó Refuge will be part part of Mallorca Council Refuges Network.
The Galatzó estate, acquired by Calvià Town Hall in 2006, has great cultural, historical and natural value. The 'Ruta de Pedra en Sec' route passes through the estate in the variant that starts from Capdellà, specifically from the Galatzó stage to Sa Coma d'en Vidal.

The mayor of Calvià has celebrated that an exciting project has become a reality thanks to the collaboration between the different administrations, the Town Hall, the Mallorca Council and the Government of the Balearic Islands, which in recent years have worked closely to launch it. Alfonso Rodríguez Badal has pointed out that the Refuge will add value to the municipal public estate which is experiencing an intense recovery activity of traditional elements such as the old dairy, the olive grove agricultural terraces, the mill and the hydraulic system, amongst others, and the great task that Esment is doing with the agricultural management of the estate.
