Posidonia: Calvią example of good practices

Thursday 18th November 2021

Calvià, an example of good practices in posidonia removal

The beaches of Calvià have been an example of good practices in seagrass (posidonia) removal, within the Days in which the Department of the Environment and Territory of the Balearic Government collaborates, led by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) within the framework of the POSBMED2 project of the Mediterranean Interreg. For three days, the Balearic Islands have presented the policies developed regarding the management and removal of posidonia on beaches within the framework of the Posidonia Decree, approved in 2018, as an example of good practices for other Mediterranean regions. One of the areas chosen to show the posidonia removal policies in the Balearic Islands have been the beaches of Portals Vells and Santa Ponça, where the people attending the Days, from different regions of the Mediterranean, have been able to observe the action that takes place in Calvià. On behalf of the Town Hall, the event was attended by the general director of Tourism and Coastline, Xavier Pascuet, and the manager of Calvià 2000, Francisco Javier González.
