NA BURGUESA REFORESTATION BY THE STUDENTS IN SIXTH YEAR OF CEIP SON CALIU AND OFFICERS OF IBANAT
The sampling technique was also applied to quantify all trees and shrubs reforested beforehand and in good condition to determine if these works are being successful
CEIP Son Caliu sixth year students and IBANAT officers, with the coordination of the Department of Natural and Urban Environment of Calvià Town Hall, have carried out a reforestation in Na Burguesa in the area that caught fire near Son Caliu about four years ago.
During the day, in addition to working on reforestation tasks, the students, divided into small groups, have put the scientific method into practice, applying the sampling technique to quantify all the trees and shrubs reforested previously, and thus determine if these works are succeeding.
In total, they counted 95 pines and 32 olive trees in good condition, as well as 68 dead specimens that have not had enough resilience to withstand the last two years of drought and hot summers.
The conclusion is that the state of this area is good in general terms as it can be seen by the large number of species that are found and the regrowths that have emerged naturally.
At the end of the day, at least one specimen of holmoak, shrub or pine was planted in substitution of each dead specimen, in addition to planting new specimens in areas that had not been yet worked on.
