La Llar awarded for work in occupational health

Friday, 18th June 2021

LA LLAR DE CALVIÀ RECEIVES THE 28th APRIL AWARD FROM THE FEDERATION OF PUBLIC SERVICES OF THE UGT ILLES BALEARS

The award recognises the work carried out in the field of occupational health, before and during the pandemic, by the Calvià municipal home for senior citizens

The Federation of Public Services of UGT Illes Balears has handed out the 28th April Prize in Occupational Health to the Llar de Calvià. With this award, which is given for the first time, the continued work in this area in the municipal senior citizen home is recognized, especially in recent years and during the pandemic.

UGT recognizes the joint involvement of the entire Llar: workers, professionals in the preventive field, works council, management and the institutions that have supported the initiatives proposed in this field.

Amongst other actions, the preventive activity that was carried out during the pandemic, with the necessary PPE, up-to-date information and communication between management and staff, has been highlighted, in addition to having advanced some measures before the protocols dictated by health authority, how to advance the implantation of masks, the closure of the day centre and the control of visits. This led to no case of Covid due to contagion within the home.

The speed and control with which the Llar was evicted when the electrical panel caught fire, on 21st August 2020, and the care that the staff continued to offer to users, who were relocated in other centres, has also been highlighted. Finally, it has pointed to the change of beds and furniture that took place in La Llar, before the pandemic, which favored both users and staff to be able to carry out their work in better conditions.

The mayor, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, has intervened in the award handing out ceremony congratulating all the workers of La Llar and the management of the centre, stating that public services have always been essential, but with the pandemic they have been fundamental especially for a sector as vulnerable as senior citizens.

The event was attended by La Llar's company committee, the management and workers of the premises, as well as the manager, Carmen Pérez Blasco; the Deputy Mayor for Social Cohesion, Nati Francés, and the General Director of Labour of the Regional Government, Virginia Abraham. On behalf of UGT were the secretary general of the Balearic Islands, Lorenzo Navarro, and the secretary of the FESP, Miguel Ángel Romero, who has handed out the award.
