Calvià is finalising the preparations for what will be the most literary autumn and which will turn the municipality into the cultural centre of the island during the month of October. The Town Hall is one of the collaborators of the FLEM (Expanded Literature Festival) which will be held between 3rd and 6th October, and will present the Rei En Jaume awards at a gala open to the public on 25th October at 7 p.m. in the Sala Palmanova that will also be broadcast on television.

The fourth edition of FLEM aims to surpass the 7.000 participants of last year and will feature authors such as Carme Riera, Eva Baltasar, David Uclés, Manuel Vilas and Elísabet Benavent, amongst others. Juan Antonio Amengual, mayor of Calvià —one of the main sponsors of the event—, has pointed out that “these initiatives that we support serve to make a predominantly Mallorcan public get to know the new Magaluf, which is much more than a sun and beach destination. It is very positive that this type of events help to change the perception of a mature destination to what it really is, a place with a varied offer and that gains in quality every year.”

On the other hand, Manuel Mas, deputy mayor responsible for Culture, has announced the Rei En Jaume awards ceremony, which for the first time will be open to the public and is full of novelties. This year's event —which has brought back the novel and the Spanish language— has sparked the interest of the participants. The 153 works presented are divided into narrative in Spanish, 58; narrative in Catalan, 10; poetry in Spanish, 68; and poetry in Catalan, 17. In the 2023 edition of the awards, 21 collections of poetry were presented in Catalan - there was no category in Spanish, nor narrative. Another novelty is the honorary awards that will be announced at the gala and will be given to representative figures from the world of culture.
