Half Marathon Magaluf Presentation

Calvià 22nd June 2021

The Half Marathon Magaluf successfully returns with 1000 participants

• The race involves the reactivation of high-volume sports events in the municipality.
• The event will be attended by Mari Carmen Paredes, qualified for the Paralympic Games in Tokyo 2021

The 36th edition of Half Marathon Magaluf 2021 will take place on 26th June at 7 p.m., undoubtedly the most anticipated edition. Since 19th October 2019, with Challenge Peguera Mallorca, Calvià did not host a large-volume sports event. The pandemic forced the suspension of the municipal sports programming, which is undoubtedly one of the sports, economic and tourism development motors in the municipality. Thus, HALF MARATHON MAGALUF 2021 on 26th June, represents for Calvià, the beginning of the sports events sector recovery in the area.

Magaluf beach, town hosting the event, was the setting today for the Magaluf Half Marathon presentation, which was attended by the mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal; the deputy mayor for Sports, Eva Serra; the Magaluf councillor, Marc López; the director of the Mallorca Turisme Foundation, Miquel Pastor; the president of the Mallorca Live Festival Foundation, Álvaro Martínez; the president of the Calvià Foundation, Toni Mayol; the Calvià's general director of Tourism and Coastline, Xavier Pascuet, and the athlete Mari Carmen Paredes who is preparing for the Paralympic Games in Tokyo and who will run the Magaluf Half.

Rodríguez Badal, who thanked the Mallorca Turisme and the Mallorca Live Festival foundations for their collaboration, highlighted how positive it is to recover activity, such as these major sporting events, and generate product for the destination.

1.000 participants, the maximum allowed for this edition

The race will finally have the participation of a total of 1.000 people, the maximum allowed by current regulations on COVID for this type of events.
Participants are divided into 3 races, half marathon (350), 10 km (350) and children's race (300).The organisation works hard to apply the necessary measures so that the development of the event is safe.

 Paralympic athletes participation

Paralympic athletes Mari Carmen Paredes, classified for the Paralympic Games in Tokyo 2021, and Asturian Alberto Suárez Laso, will be at the start line of the 21 km race. In addition, two other athletes with visual impairments will also run the Magaluf Half Marathon.

A new circuit adapted to COVID

The new route starts and ends at the Magaluf athletics track, with the aim of helping to improve the traffic of the flow of participants and the public during the event.
As a novelty, the steps inside the Magaluf Karting circuit are eliminated, in order to create a straighter and wider route.
The result of these changes is a flatter, faster and easier route, a welcoming, clear circuit with a contained unevenness.

The best running experience

One of the characteristics that have always defined the HALF MARATHON MAGALUF, is to bet on offering the best service and options to the participants. The pandemic has changed the way some of these services are carried out and therefore, forces the organisation to work on new solutions that can be adapted to current times. Race kit, refreshments, collection of numbers, timing, pasta party or parallel activities, are kept in the event's service catalogue, with the necessary adaptations.

 Itinerant Pasta Party

The organisation of the HALF MARATHON MAGALUF 2021 cannot offer the Pasta Party model that it offered in previous editions consisting of bringing together all the participants and volunteering in the dining room or terrace of a hotel and having a joint dinner prior to the day of the event. On the other hand, the organisation did not want to give up offering an alternative to the people who bet on the event and in this way the ITINERANT PASTA PARTY was devised. It is about holding a pasta party in all the restaurants in the areas especially affected by the development of the race, that is, Magaluf, Son Ferrer and Palmanova. The organisation will give each participant and volunteer a 7€ ticket that can be exchanged at any of the restaurants that join the campaign. So far, the initiative has about 30 member restaurants. The objective of this initiative is, on the one hand, to keep alive the pasta party spirit amongst the participants and, on the other, to contribute to the development of the restaurant sector in the area.

Traffic cuts and restrictions due to the event's setting up and the event itself

The Half Marathon Magaluf 2021 will entail traffic and parking restrictions during the morning, afternoon and evening on 26th June in the areas where the races take place and adjacent streets. The bulk of roadblocks and parking prohibitions will focus on the areas of Magaluf, Sa Porrassa, Son Ferrer and Palmanova. As for the hours, the parking restrictions will begin at 12 noon, while the roadblocks will go from 5.30 to 9.45 p.m., on 26th June. On the website https://maratonmagaluf.com/trafico/ you can find all the traffic cuts and parking restrictions provided by zones and times.
