Wednesday 9th December 2020

THE NEW MOT'S MOBILE STATION IN CALVIÀ ENTERS INTO SERVICE

With four lines for passenger cars, the station is expected to inspect 300 vehicles every day on average

The president of the Consell, Catalina Cladera, the mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, and the regional minister for Mobility and Infrastructures, Iván Sevillano, have inaugurated, today Wednesday, the new MOT mobile station in Magaluf. The event has also been attended by the insular director of MOT and Classified Activities, Sergio Rajoy, and the deputy mayor for Urban Planning, Commerce and Activities of the municipality, Marc López.

The provisional station is expected to be operational for the next 10 months and consists of 4 mobile inspection units for passenger cars and administrative offices. President Cladera highlighted "the inter-institutional collaboration that has enabled a MOT station in the Ponent de Mallorca area ", and thanked the Town Hall for the provision throughout the process. «With a daily average of 300 inspections, the new station will help to solve the overload of the two stations in Palma and the ones in Inca and Manacor caused by the closure during the state of alarm decreed by the Covid, thus allowing us to save time in the face of the construction of the fifth station in Son Bugadelles».

The mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, has highlighted the collaboration between the two administrations and the actions carried out by the Town Hall to make possible a MOT station in the Ponent area, with the advantages that this implies for the residents of the municipality. He has also recognised the work carried out by the Calvià Town Hall's Urban Planning Department to facilitate the license to install the provisional MOT station, speed the tasks to adapt the municipal site where it is located, and carry out the partial reception of the mentioned site and the access roads.

As the rest of the stations, the inspection schedule will be from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Inspections will be arranged by prior appointment, operational from this morning through the usual website, and an average daily forecast of 300 inspections is estimated. Fact that will help to significantly reduce the current waiting times caused by the closure of all the island's stations during the confinement caused by Covid-19.

The regional minister for Mobility and Infrastructures, Iván Sevillano, assured that “we are proud of the agility with which the station has been set up. We act to solve the problem caused by the closure of the stations and that will benefit all citizens who will be able to reschedule their appointments”.

24 new professionals will work in the new facilities (16 inspectors, 4 administratives, 2 supervisers and 2 engineers) who come from the other stations on the island. To cover these workforce movements, 24 new workers have been hired to fill vacancies.

The service has been adapted to health protocols. MOT users can carry out all the administrative procedures, pay the fee and wait for the documentation, once the inspection has passed, without having to get out of the vehicle.

The new station is located on a Magaluf plot, with access from the roundabout that goes towards Son Ferrer and el Toro from the Andratx highway (Ma-1). The plot has been handed over by the Calvià Town Hall through an agreement signed with the island institution. The plot is separated from any residential area and in the future it will be used as a municipal parking lot, the result of an increase in urban use by the construction of houses. The set-up of the station has taken place thanks to the collaboration of the residential area's promoter company.

The cost of the facilities and machinery represents an expense of 460.000 euros for the rental of the lines, the offices and the marquee, which will be recovered with the provision of the service itself.
