'Somos Mįs' programme against hate and radicalism

Friday 27th November 2020

Presentation of the Somos Más programme against hate and radicalism on social media

This morning, the SOMOS MÁS programme against hate and radicalism was presented at the IES Son Ferrer, a training and awareness-raising project for youth in the prevention of violent radicalism and to combat hate messages on social media, promoting human rights and respect for diversity. Since 2018 it has trained more than 60.000 young people and 1.2000 teachers in 500 schools in all the Autonomous Communities.

Today, the presentation has taken place at the Calvià High School in Son Ferrer, with the attendance of the Mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal; the Regional Minister for Education, University and Research, Martí March; the Government delegate, Aina Calvo; the Deputy Mayor for Education and Employment, Olga Granados; as well as the general secretary of UGT Baleares, Alejandro Texías, and the IES Son Ferrer headmistress, Marta Otero, amongst others.

The mayor of Calvià, in his speech, gave the message to the students that "hate, racism and xenophobia have to do with the fear of what is different, but what is different enriches us". That is why he has encouraged them to speak through social networks about solidarity, empathy "because this is also registered and also goes viral."
