Closure order of establishments in Punta Ballena

 Thursday, 17th August 2017

THE CALVIÀ TOWN HALL ORDERS CLOSURE OF SIX ESTABLISHMENTS OF PUNTA BALLENA THAT WERE DEDICATED TO THE EXPLOITATION OF WOMEN INTO PROSTITUTION UNDER BAR OF CAFÉ-CONCERT LICENSES

A termination process of the their municipal activity opening and operation license is also initiated

The Town Hall of Calvià has ordered the closure of six establishments located in Punta Ballena, which exceeded the limits of their activity license, since they were mainly engaged in the exploitation of women into prostitution under the auspices of bar or café-concert licenses. The commercial names of the establishments that engaged in this clandestine activity are Bar Touch, Bar Kandi, Apple Pub, Red Room, Opps Party, and Jaggers.
The closure order occurs after rejecting the allegations presented by the affected premises, so they must paralyze the activity and close the establishments. The closure order is immediately executive and therefore, if it is not fulfilled, enforced execution will proceed sealing the facilities.
In parallel, a procedure has been initiated for the termination of the opening and operation municipal licenses as bar and café-concert activities that they had been granted with.
The Town Hall of Calvià had received complaints from residents in the area and filed complaints about noise at night and attracting prostitution clients in public areas of the building. That is to say, to live in a situation of widespread insecurity that was aggravated by the presence of children living in the area.
The Local Police of Calvià initiated the investigations and found that some of these premises, that mainly should have been dedicated to bar or café-concert activity, had been refurbished indoors, dedicating areas to rooms with beds and infrastructures that demonstrated an activity taking place that has nothing to do with the enabling title of the establishment, but more to do with activities possibly aimed at the sexual exploitation of women. Police agents also interviewed several clients who declared they paid to have sex with prostituted women and confirmed the suspicions that the establishments worked as brothels.
The Town Hall of Calvià is taking - and will continue taking - measures to move towards a change of model in this area of the municipality, in order to eradicate tourism of excesses that is so harmful to the destination and so annoying for neighbours in the area.
